A 3-2 defeat at the hands of the Tisdale Trojans gave the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires their third-straight loss.

On the road in the northeast, Swift Current found the back of the net first on rookie forward Jaxon Martens’ fifth of the year. Assists came from leading scorer Mason Strutt and blueliner Kersey Reich on a goal that came 8:40 into play.

Just 1:03 later, Tisdale evened things up, though the Legionnaires were able to jump back ahead before the end of the first.

With just 1:14 remaining, Riley Dekowny put one home, with Strutt again recording the primary assist, and Logan Linklater chipping in the secondary helper.

Swift Current’s 2-1 lead carried through 40 minutes as well, after both teams were held off the board in the second period.

Tisdale sunk the Legionnaires in the third, with the game-tying and game-winning goals coming midway through the period, and under two minutes apart.

"We're playing really good right now, that's the sad part,” said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen on the team’s recent struggles in the standings, despite good play on the ice.

“But, we're just making little mistakes at critical times, and we're getting burned on it. The game's holding us very accountable on mistakes. It's mental mistakes that we've talked about, like discipline or turnovers."

The Legionnaires brief three-game slide started in a 5-3 loss to the Regina Pat C’s on December 18, with the middle contest a 5-2 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds this past Tuesday.

"I think we're sharp, it's just a lapse,” Evjen said, on what is missing from the winning formula they’ve seen most of the season.

“If there was an antidote, I'd go buy it, but there isn't. Each guy in there has to take responsibility and be accountable, because it isn't one or two guys. When we do that and we stay to it, and we have been, we'll get out of this and we'll get on the right side of winning again."

Goalie Jacob Herman made a sturdy 24 saves on 27 shots, as the Legionnaires piled 28 on Tanner Martin in net for Tisdale.

“The other thing that magnifies us is were having a tough time scoring,” noted Evjen. “We’re not scoring easy right now, so every mistake is magnified. We’ve just got to stay with it. Coaches and players have to work together, and you’ve got to get going on the right track.”

Of course, at 19-9-1-0 and in fourth place in the league standings, there isn't any reason to panic for the Legionnaires. Evjen notes that there’s plenty of good to take away from last night’s game, along with their play as of late:

The Legionnaires round out the weekend in Beardy's this afternoon, as they take on the Blackhawks at 1:30 p.m.

Returning to the team last night from his brief stint in the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen, goalie Ethan Hein gets the start in net.
