The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires looked for a win on home ice yesterday afternoon, but a 4-1 loss to the Notre Dame Hounds dropped them to the brink of elimination.

After a 5-2 loss on Friday in Wilcox, the Legionnaires now trail 2-0 in the best-of-five league semi-final series.

Game 2 at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex was a similar start as Game 1, as Swift Current dropped behind 2-0 after 20 minutes. They got out-shot 13-2 in the first.

But, as was the case in the first playoff meeting, the Legionnaires trimmed away at the lead. Midway through the second period Swift Current cut the deficit to one on a goal from Rin Beny and assist by Mason Strutt.

I thought we had lots of fire," said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen. "When you talk about learning on your way, we've learned. This game we played very hard and competitive - that's what we wanted."

The Legionnaires went 0-for-4 on the powerplay, while the Hounds went 1-for-7. Heading into Game 3, Swift's bench boss says the game plan won't change much, although he hopes they'll be able to generate a few more powerplay opportunities, as he feels his team has earned them.

"We've got to play more of the same. We've got to keep trying to come out as much as we can on the tape and clean that up a little bit," said Evjen. "Other than that, we're playing hard. I think the biggest factor has been officiating in these two games. Our special teams are good, and like I say, I just think it needs to be a fair fight right now and it hasn't been."

Cody Levesque stopped 19 of 22 shots in net for the Legionnaires, who look to avoid elimination in Wilcox Thursday night at 8 p.m.
