In a game that was closer than the score suggests, the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires were handed a 5-2 loss by the Notre Dame Hounds on the road Tuesday night.

Swift Current jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Mason Strutt's 20th goal of the season, as Boston Bird and Reed Jacobson set up the Estevan product with 3:28 remaining in the opening frame. But, Notre Dame fought back to tie it up at one apiece through the first period.

Notre Dame then scored two unanswered in the second for a 3-1 lead over the Legionnaires heading into the second intermission.

However, Legionnaires forward Logan Linklater cut the deficit to one just 75 seconds into the third on feeds from Riley Dekowny and Kersey Reich.

That was as close as Swift got though as the Hounds jumped back ahead by two seven minutes later.

The Legionnaires made a late push, with several prime chances with the net empty, but couldn't bury a puck late. Notre Dame slid in an empty-netter with just three seconds remaining.

Swift Current out-shot the Hounds 30-23 in the game, with Legionnaires netminder Jacob Herman recording a 19-save percentage in the loss.

Now at 19-8-1-0 on the year, the Legionnaires are next in action with a road trip to Tisdale and Beardy's this weekend.

Swift Current takes on the Trojans, who have the highest win-percentage in the SMAAAHL (.850), Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
