The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires lit up the score sheet in a statement win to open their playoff series with the Tisdale Trojans on Friday night.

On the road in Tisdale, the Legionnaires burst into the win column with a 6-2 victory.

"I really like the way we came out to play... the start we needed in playoffs," said head coach Darren Evjen. "We hadn't played in playoffs yet, but I think we learned a lot this year. We just looked like we had good composure and played a good two-way game."

The Legionnaires never trailed in the game, and used six different goal scorers to find the back of the net twice in the first period, once in the second, and three times in the third.

"Everybody played lots, and you need that in playoffs - you need everybody to play, and everybody to jump in and contribute in some way," Evjen added. "Right now, we're getting it from a lot of different people and that's a good thing."

Reed Jacobson, Rin Beny, Jacob Piller, Owen Ozar, Ty Muench, and Kersey Reich all found the back of the net in the win. All but Reich added single assists as well for multi-point games.

Point-wise, Hunter Lamb led the way with a trio of helpers on Beny's, Muench's, and Piller's goals. Dylan Hull also notched an assist.

Cody Levesque was seeing the puck well tonight, stopping 27 of 29 shots for the Legionnaires.

"Code looks confident and he looked solid out there, made some saves when he needed to," said Evjen. "That's when you can get into a rhythm and play well - you make some saves and the guys in front of you play well, and keep the pucks coming from the outside."

The Legionnaires scored five of six goals at even strength, going 1-for-4 on the power-play on Reich's first-period blast.

"We've been struggling down the stretch on it, and we'd like to create more," explained Evjen of Swift's work on the man-advantage. "We have players with good numbers, and we just don't seem to be executing. We've got to chip away and work at that, and try to execute and get some goals there. The next game will probably be a little tighter."

The best-of-five series heads from the northeast to the southwest, as the Legionnaires get set to defend their 1-0 lead on home ice - an opportunity the organization is certainly looking forward to.

"Well it's the excitement - now they're in the series," Evjen shared. "They won a game, and they feel good about themselves. It's a good feeling to win a game in playoffs. We're excited to come home and play, and try to push it to two."

The fifth-place Legionnaires and fourth-place Trojans will battle in Game 2 at 4:15 p.m. on Sunday from the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.
