The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires earned one of a possible 4 points in two road games this weekend.

The Legionnaires lost 7-4 to the Beardys Blackhawks on Saturday - their first loss to Beardys in their fourth and final meeting this season.

"The game in Beardys I thought we didn't play well as a group for the whole game," said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen. "There wasn't much that we created, we didn't defend, and it just was one of those games you don't play well as a group."

Jacob Piller and Mason Strutt each had two goals and two assists, Hunter Lamb had a trio of assists, and goalie Cody Levesque added one on the offensive end as well. Levesque stopped 21 of 26 shots, and Steven Duchscher stopped 13 of 15 in relief.

The Legionnaires responded better on Sunday, but fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Saskatoon Blazers.

Lamb and Chase Gallant scored, while Piller, Owen Ozar, and Kersey Reich added assists, while Duchscher stopped 34 of 36 shots.

"It felt like our team took a step to get back playing where it needed to play," said Evjen.

The Legionnaires are now 0-3-1-1 in their last five games, with just two regular season contests left to play.

"Well just missing six or seven guys. It's just hard, and everything is off," noted Evjen on a reason for some struggle. "But the biggest thing isn't wins or losses, it's how you're playing. We didn't play well on Saturday, and we didn't really play a full 60 minutes against Notre Dame (last Tuesday), but we played 60 minutes today, and that's what you want to see in your group going down the stretch here."

The Legionnaires next head to Moose Jaw on Thursday to face a defensive, less uptempo Generals squad.

"Well it really forces you into it," explained Evjen of how his team will stay consistent against Moose Jaw's style of play. "You either turn pucks over in the neutral zone all night, or you get the puck and make the right puck play and that forces you into that. If you get stubborn, then that's when you can drop the game. If we get pucks in behind their D and skate and move the puck, then I think we have a good opportunity to go in there and get some points."

In the meantime, recovery and tuning up their play on the man-advantage are on the radar this week.

"I think right now we need some rest. We need to work on our power play, that's for sure. It hasn't been very strong here in the last six games, so we've got to start scoring on the power play, it's got to be a threat so going forward into playoffs we feel good that our power play can get us a goal when we need it," Evjen said.

Puck drop between the Legionnaires and Generals is 7 p.m. from Mosaic Place in Moose Jaw.
