A key two-win weekend pulled the Home Hardware Midget ‘AAA’ Legionnaires within two points of 7th place of the Saskatchewan Midget ‘AAA’ Hockey League standings.

On the road in Yorktown for a pair of games against the 7th placed Maulers, Swift Current came away with a full four points.

In Saturday’s contest, Legionnaires goalie Cody Levesque backstopped Swift Current to a 4-0 shutout victory over the hometown Maulers.

The Legionnaires got on the board with a pair of first period goals, as Jake Misskey and Hunter Lamb both found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead after one period of play.

Following a scoreless middle frame, Swift Current put the game away in the third.

Shayde Peterson netted his second goal of the season with just over three minutes remaining in the game, giving Swift Current a 3-0 lead.

With Yorkton’s goalie pulled in the final minute Ty Muench rounded out the scoring with an empty-netter as Swift Current won the contest 4-0.

Entering the back-end of their weekend series trailing the Maulers by four points in the standings, the Legionnaires were able to trim the lead down to two points, with a 5-1 win on Sunday.

Just like Saturday’s game, the Legionnaires were able to jump out to a 2-0 lead after one.

Jacob Piller found the back of the net twice for Swift Current in the opening frame.

The Legionnaires then doubled their lead in the second period with two power-play goals, as Misskey and Lamb both scored in their second straight game.

In the third period Piller extended the Swift Current lead to 5-0, while completing his hat-trick.

With 9:30 left to play in the third Levesque lost his bid for a second straight shut-out, allowing his only goal of the weekend.

Over the two games, Levesque combined to make 58 saves on 59 shots.

The Legionnaires will look to keep their momentum rolling on Friday when they host the Prince Albert Mintos.
