The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires nabbed a 3-2 win Friday night in an OT thriller against the Tisdale Trojans in their opening game of the annual SMAAAHL showcase, this year being held in Warman.

Scoring was held in check for over 16 minutes to start the game, until with 3:43 remaining in the opening frame, forward Jacob Piller broke his brief one-game scoring drought with assists from Jerzy Orchard and Owen Ozar on the goal.

Long scoreless stretches continued throughout the contest between the Legionnaires and Trojans, aside from a wild 12-second window in the second period.

With 6:15 left to go, Hunter Lamb found the back of the net for Swift Current with the helper from Jagger Prosofsky.

However, as mentioned, just 12 seconds later the Trojans, who came into the game unbeaten this season, got on the board on an unassisted goal by Rhett Frey.

Tisdale put the equalizer past Legionnaires' goalie Cody Levesque nearly 22 minutes later in the third period on yet another unassisted goal, this time from Kaden Kohle.

In the extra frame, the scoring came quickly for the Legionnaires. Just 49 seconds into overtime, forward Rin Beny, playing in his first game this season after being out of the lineup the first two, found Hunter Lamb who buried the winner for his second goal of the game for the Legionnaires.

It was a gritty game with both teams each accounting for just 21 shots.

"We really found a way to grind it out and stay with our game," said head coach Darren Evjen. "It's just one of those situations where you have to stay with it and stay together and push to get the win."

Cody Levesque had 19 saves in the game, keeping his G.A.A. at an even 2.00 through a pair of starts this season.

The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires face the Prince Albert Mintos Saturday afternoon in their final game of the SMAAAHL showcase.
