The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires have now won two games in a row after ending a five-game losing streak this past Sunday.

Taking on the Saskatoon Blazers at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex Friday night, the Legionnaires were clicking in front of the home crowd to the tune of a 4-1 win.

"The past losing streak here we've been struggling a little - the puck just wasn't going in the net like it was at the start of the year," Legionnaires' captain Owen Ozar said. "I think tonight was just a result of our hard work and it just started going in the net for us."

The puck was certainly going in for Swift Current's top line tonight, as Ozar led the way with four points (2 G, 2 A), Jacob Piller added three (2 G, 1 A), and Hunter Lamb had three of his own (3 A).

"They did really well, you know they always have a good effort. When they come to play it's a different game for us - we come out on the winning end," said Legionnaires' assistant coach Guy Jacobson. "It's a credit to our vet squad, and the young guys pushing the bottom too, which helps. They support - if they're a minus we may lose, but if they're par we're on the winning end of it."

The top three forwards accounted for ten out of 12 points on the stat sheet, with both Ty Muench and Kersey Reich adding the other two points in the form of single assists.

Top to bottom, it was a well-rounded effort against the visiting Blazers and comes after a balanced week of rest and hard practices.

"You know, we had a good week of practices, we had a lot of battling and a lot of hard work, and I think it just transferred to our game. Coach Evs (Darren Evjen) always talks about 'How we practice is how we play', and I think that showed tonight."

It was a thought echoed by his coach as well, who noted the prep from the week was evident out on the ice.

"We had a great effort tonight. We stuck to the basics, stuck to our game - things we've enforced right from day one," Jacobson said. "That was the big thing - sticking to the simple plays, making them early, getting the jump on draws, all those little important things that win you hockey games."

Cody Levesque stopped 27 of 28 shots for Swift, whose record now improves to 11-7-0-2, while the Blazers drop to 4-13-2-1.

The Legionnaires now look to a revenge game of sorts, as they host the Notre Dame Hounds (13-1-0-1) to wrap up the weekend. The Hounds edged Swift 4-3 in overtime on November 5 in Wilcox.

"We've seen them play before so we know what to expect. I think we've just got to come out, play smart, play hard, and just play our game - we know we can beat anyone in the league, and it's just a matter of if we come to play that night," Ozar explained, while adding how they hope to counter the Hounds' style of play. "They've got lots of skill, their top line is like our top line - they've got lots of top scorers on the team. We've just got to shut them down and play well defensively, and then it will lead to good offence."

Puck drop between the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires and Notre Dame Hounds is tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. at the Innovation Credit Union iPlex.
