The Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires snapped a five-game slide with a 5-0 win over the Moose Jaw Generals last night in the Friendly City.

The Legionnaires welcomed defenceman Mkyllan Couture back into the lineup after sitting out three games with an injury. The blueliner scored his first goal of the season in his return.

Leading the way offensively for Swift were two of the usual suspects - Jacob Piller had two goals and an assist, and Hunter Lamb had a trio of helpers in the steady win.

"Well they're good players in our league. They're 17-year-olds, and it's this time of year," said head coach Darren Evjen. "They've got the strength and the size, and they're a little more experienced, and they've played well for us. They're good players that create a lot of chances, and with their skill they finish."

The duo's three-point nights lift Lamb into third place in league scoring (63 points), with Piller right behind his teammate in fifth (61).

Riny Beny (1 G, 1 A) and Reed Jacobson (2 A) also contributed multi-point efforts, while rookie AP defenceman Hendrik DeKlerk scored his first-career SMAAAHL goal in the second period with 21 seconds left.

The call-up from the Swift Current Abbey Resources Midget AA Broncos is one of a swarm of southwest skaters who have helped fill the roster while the Legionnaires have struggled with injuries this season.

This game saw both DeKlerk and Kabos Bantam AA Broncos' defenceman Joe Arntsen grace the Legionnaires' blueline.

"Well I think both of those guys have played very well whenever we've brought them up," Evjen said. "It's a boost, they're good players and they'll play here next year. They have lots of success out there, and they can play with some older guys and get some experience. It's good for their development, and they help us out when we need them."

The Legionnaires piled pucks on the Generals' net in the win, out-shooting Moose Jaw 48-25. Goalie Steven Duchscher stopped all 25 of those shots to record his second shutout of the season, improving his record to 13-8 on the campaign.

The Legionnaires are set to welcome another defenceman back from injury ahead of the regular season finale. Lucas Ochitwa will return for Sunday's contest against the Notre Dame Hounds after having missed the last seven games.
