After an OT win on Friday night, the Home Hardware Midget AAA Legionnaires dropped their second game of the weekend Saturday afternoon.

The Legionnaires fell 6-2 to the Prince Albert Mintos in their final game of the annual SMAAAHL 12-team showcase.

Penalty trouble for the Legionnaires set the tone in the game's early stages.

A pair of cross-checking penalties 40 seconds apart (17:10, 16:30) put Swift down 5-on-3. The Mintos would need just 41 seconds of the two-man advantage to capitalize.

Prince Albert's Alex Moar put the puck past Steven Duchscher to make it 1-0, and 5-on-4... 45 seconds later, Parker Fofonoff solved Duchscher to increase the lead to 2-0.

"That put us in a hole against a very good hockey team," said Legionnaires head coach Darren Evjen. "Once we got our feet on the ground and put some discipline in our game, we started pushing back and we played well."

Swift answered back in the last five minutes of the second frame courtesy of Jerzy Orchard, but the lead was stretched back to two goals in the dying seconds.

With just 20 seconds left, Jaden Mayer scored Prince Albert's first even-strength goal of the game.

"Giving up a goal in the last minute... it always hurts," Evjen said.

Still, Swift Current was resilient on the offensive end, as Rin Beny lit up the goal light just over five minutes into the final frame.

However, a trio of unanswered goals by Prince Albert closed out the scoring and the game - the final goal coming on the power play with just one second left.

Steven Duchscher stopped 24 of 30 shots for the Legionnaires in the game, as Swift falls back to .500 (2-2) on the season.

After playing three games in four days, the Legionnaires have a bit of a break before their next two. Swift hosts the Battlefords Stars this Saturday, October 7, and Sunday, October 8.
