Newly-acquired Swift Current Broncos Forward Luca Leone is looking forward to a fresh start.

Leone came to the Broncos on May 7th in a trade with the Vancouver Giants for veteran defenceman Bobby Zinkan, and describes himself as a good, well-rounded two-way forward.

"I can play in the defensive zone and I like play in the offensive zone and create offense," he said. "It's kind of what I enjoy to do and enjoy shutting people down, but I think I'm a good skater, have good vision and pretty good hands.

Leone posted 43 goals and 93 points in his last season of bantam hockey at the prestigious Shattuck-St. Mary's school in Minnesota, but has yet to find that scoring touch in the WHL, as he scored just 11 points in 63 games over two seasons playing mostly third- and fourth-line minutes with the Giants.

He is hoping that the Broncos will give him an opportunity to grow his game, and looks to prove that he can take on a bigger role and play more minutes in Swift Current.

"It's very promising and you just have to work hard and prove to them that I deserve that opportunity," he added. "Nothing's going to be given, you just got to earn it."

Leone is listed at 6'0" 190 pounds, and adds even though he is known more as a skilled player, he can play a grittier game if that's what's called for.

The Broncos will open training camp in August.
