Gull Lake will host Hanley on Saturday in one of four SHSAA 1A 6-Man Football Provincial Quarter-Finals

The Gull Lake Lions 6-man Football team are getting prepared for their provincial quarterfinal this weekend against the Hanley Sabres.

Gull Lake went a perfect 6-0 through round robin play and defeated Eatonia 14-0 in their playoff match-up, earning the Lions home field advantage this weekend.

Lions Head Coach Neil Boutin says playing the game in Gull Lake is an important factor.

"When you have the playoff game at home, you're comfortable and your kids are comfortable. You don't have to travel, and travel for us is a bit of an issue because there are not many communities close to us," he said.

Boutin also mentioned his guys will have to be ready to go against a tough Hanley team.

"They're a very well disciplined football team. Their offense is aggressive pushing the ball downfield by passing. They really don't utilize their running back very often so we know that we have to key the quarterback, he is their bread and butter as far as making their offense click. Defensively, they really rush hard, they have a four man line that they utilize and they try to get to you quickly before you get your plays off," he said

Kick-off between the Lions and Sabres is scheduled for 1:00pm on Saturday.
