Smash Vegas and Ginger Vitas from the Redneck Betties have been selected for the first-ever Team Saskatchewan roller derby team.
Full Interview with Smash Vegas"The plan is to actually be certified by WFTDA, which is the Women's Flat Track Derby Association," said Smash Vegas. "It started in the States. So they actually have standings and playoffs, where in Canada we are not quite there yet."
The new Team Saskatchewan hopes to provide more exposure for women's roller derby.
"Saskatchewan being a smaller province and having now a provincial team for roller derby brings the whole province together as well, like all the fans, and kind of gives it a little bit more legitimacy as far as a sports, a real sport, the fastest growing sport in Canada right now. I think this is a real good step forward," noted Smash Vegas.
She added that the team will also enter regional with the goal to make Nationals. The teams first game is in Moose Jaw April 20th against the Red Deer Belladonnas.
