Swift Current’s Maureen Quincey training at Bodyfit for the IFBB Saskatchewan Championships in Moose Jaw this weekend.

Bodybuilders from around Saskatchewan will be heading to Moose Jaw this weekend for the 2014 International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Saskatchewan Championships.

IFBB Saskatchewan Championships will feature men and women competing in bodybuilding, physique, fitness, figure and bikini classes.

Swift Current’s Maureen Quincey has been training since January to compete in the novice woman open physique class.

"There are a couple of people that inspired me that were just real people and did it and I said "you did it and look at the body you got!"  I will be 50 in August, so I thought I am going to do this and the health part of it, just getting healthy."

Quincey says it has been a big commit to train for this event.

"I think if I knew in January what I am doing now I would have said not a chance, I’m not working out twice a day, but cause it started off gradually.  Every day you just go ah I can do this."

Taking it one day at time, sometimes one workout at a time has proven to help Quincey break down the sometimes overwhelming commitment the training schedule has been to adjust to.

"I think overall I am excited and overall I kind of don’t want to lose my desire to keep working out and eating healthy - I want to keep it up - not to the intensity that you are going to complete but to the intensity that you are going to keep your muscle."

Quincey adds she is waiting till her first competition is behind her till she decides if she will compete in the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships that are being held in Regina in June.
