Shaunavon's Kale Kessy is trying to make an impression with the Edmonton Oilers again, as he suited up for his first pre-season game of the year in Edmonton's 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday night at MTS Centre.

Kessy was originally drafted by the Arizona (Phoenix) Coyotes in 2011, then his rights were traded to the Oilers in 2013. He signed an entry-level deal a few weeks after the trade and played much of last season with Edmonton's AHL Affiliate in Oklahoma City.

Former Broncos Captain Adam Lowry was also in the lineup for the Jets as he tries to crack their roster. Lowry was drafted by the Jets in 2011, and played for the AHL's St. John's Ice Caps last season.

Another former Bronco Captain, Justin Dowling, was playing for the Dallas Stars in their 4-3 exhibition win over Florida Wednesday. Dowling played for the AHL's Texas Stars last year, where he won a Calder Cup against Lowry's Ice Caps.

Broncos defenceman Julius Honka, who was picked by the Stars in the first round of June's draft, was not in the lineup for Wednesday's game.

Meanwhile, the Calgary Flames treated fans in Sylvan Lake, Alberta to a 4-3 overtime win over the Arizona Coyotes. Kindersley's Curtis Glencross, who has a summer home in Sylvan Lake, scored the winner three minutes into the extra period.

The community got to host the game after winning the Kraft Hockeyville contest this spring. Swift Current reached the top-16 and won $25,000 toward arena upgrades in the contest.
