Dinos women title

Two local products helped the University of Calgary reach the pinnacle of Canadian women's university hockey.

Shaunavon's Hayley Wickenheiser scored twice and Swift Current's Jenna Smith also scored as the Dinos beat Montreal 5-1 to claim their first CIS women's hockey national championship.

Wickenheiser opened the scoring shorthanded late in the first period. She then scored the eventual game winning goal only 1:18 later.

Former Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcat Jenna Smith then got into the act as Wickenheiser helped set Smith up to give the Dinos a 3-0 lead with only 1:17 to play in the second period.

Wickenheiser completed a 4 point night by setting up Iya Gavrilova for a 4-0 Calgary lead.

Tournament MVP Amanda Tapp made 27 saves in the Dinos goal.

This was the second season with the Dinos for both Wickenheiser and Smith.
