A couple of local football players from the Swift Current Comp Football team joined Team South Saskatchewan at Canada's Premier Invitation U16 High Performance Tournament earlier this month.

Dalton Christiansen and Matthew Hurrell made the squad after a series of tryouts and helped lead South Saskatchewan to a 2-2 round robin record. In the medal round they defeated Team North Saskatchewan 10 -7 and Team Winnipeg East 27-13 to take the Bronze Medal.

Dalton Christiansen Interview"It was a great experience," Christiansen said. "I think I really matured as a person throughout the tournament just by how you had to behave and everything you had to do throughout the couple of weeks to prepare and then go to it and stuff."

Both players were with Team South Saskatchewan for two weeks, which included a one week training camp and one week tournament.

"Just the way that I have to do everything through practice and training to get ready," Christiansen said. "I can bring that back to the high school and maybe get a couple of the other guys to come and do all that stuff to get ready for the season."

Christiansen normally plays quarterback or slotback, but was a wide receiver during the tournament.

He noted it was the highest level of competition he has ever played against.
