Former Swift Current Broncos Captain Adam Lowry tipped in his first career NHL goal on a point shot from Grant Clitsome as the Winnipeg Jets beat Carolina 3-1 Tuesday at MTS Centre.

"It's something I've dreamed about for a long time, so it was a pretty special feeling to tip it and see the puck go through his legs, it was pretty exciting," Lowry told reporters after the game. "I think anytime you score, you want to score in a winning game, it makes that feeling all the more special."

Lowry scored 90 goals and 204 points in four seasons with the Broncos, winning the WHL MVP Award in his final year in junior. He was drafted by the Jets in the 3rd round of the 2011 NHL draft and played last year with the Jets' AHL affiliate in St. John's that made the Calder Cup Final.

Lowry got his first goal, assisted by former Bronco Paul Postma, in his 6th game with the Jets and his coach hopes it will be the first of many.

"You don't want a young player to go too long in his first year not scoring," Paul Maurice said. "Then they really start believe that 'I'll wait and it will happen for me later', now you get a taste that you can score, confidence grows. It's really important for those guys to get something early in the season, so they feel like they can produce."

Another former Bronco captain, Cody Eakin, scored as the Dallas Stars routed Vancouver 6-3. Canucks goalie Ryan Miller allowed five goals on 13 shots before he was pulled in the second period.

In other NHL action on Tuesday, Aneroid's Patrick Marleau picked up two assists, but his San Jose Sharks lost 5-3 in Boston. Elsewhere, Montreal beat Detroit 2-1 in overtime, Toronto beat the Islanders 5-2, and Calgary beat Tampa Bay 2-1 in OT.

Tonight's game between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa has been postponed because of today's shootings on and around Parliament Hill. Edmonton is hosting Washington in another game tonight.
