The Swift Current 57's tore up the Melville Millionaires last night in an 8-0 shutout win.

In their last road game of the 2018 regular season, the 57's used a stellar start on the mound from Joey Machado, who went seven innings, allowing just three hits and a walk, while striking out 10 batters.

Jack Ferguson pitched the eighth inning in relief of Machado allowing just one hit, while striking out one batter. Aaron Pugh tossed the final inning for the 57's, securing an identical stat line to that of Ferguson's.

A pair of Millionaires errors in the game meant the 57's needed just six hits to rack up their eight-run effort. Nick Canas and Ben Komonosky accounted for two-thirds of that hit total, each going 2-for-3. Canas touched home three times in the game.

Mitch Dean had a game-high two RBI for Swift Current who, on the defensive end, played error-free ball to secure the commanding victory.

Meanwhile in the race for second place in the Eastern Division, the 57's (26-19) jumped ahead to a one-and-a-half game lead on the third place Regina Red Sox (24-20). Regina split a double-header with the Yorkton Cardinals.

Each teams have three games remaining in the season. The Red Sox will play the Moose Jaw Miller Express tonight at home, the Melville Millionaires on the road Saturday, and the Weyburn Beavers at home Sunday.

Meanwhile the 57's polish off their regular season schedule with a three-game set at Mitchell Field against the Yorkton Cardinals starting tonight. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
