Swift Current's Zac Mackay is celebrating for two-reasons today.

He's part of the Midget AA Indians that won provincials yesterday, and he was also named Saskatcheawn Premier Baseball League Midget AAA Pitcher of the Year. The Midget Indians played in the AAA league during the regular season before switching to AA for provincials.

Mackay was happy to win another championship for the third year veterans.

"It's kind of hard to see them leave," Mackay said. "But on the other hand it's a good feeling to win and win for them for their last year in minor baseball."

Mackay got the win in the championship game, but there were a few tense moments.

"It was a one run game right to the sixth inning and we kind of scored a few runs," Mackay noted. "I had the bases loaded with two outs and I was down to my final batter for my pitch count. I got him fortunately to ground out to short stop. I couldn't have been more happy for the guys who are leaving the team this year."

As for his pitching award, he credited his team's strong fielding, but also felt like he had made some strides.

"I think I've got my velocity up," Mackay said. "Speed, I can control my pitches better, I have more command."

Mackay had a record of 10-1 in the AAA league. He led all pitchers with 70 strike outs and 5 complete games.

The two-sport athlete started the baseball season attending a camp in Phoenix and felt like he was more focused on ball this summer. That doesn't mean he isn't ready to transition to hockey mode as the Swift Current Broncos draft pick tries to crack the WHL roster.

"I'm working hard and now that baseball is over my main goal is to make Broncos," Mackay added. "I'm still in the gym with Andy Schneider, I'm committed 100% to the Broncos and hopefully I can crack the roster this year."

Mackay's hockey commitments will make him one of the several members of the Midget AA Indians unable to attend Westerns in August. They run from August 16th to the 20th in Manitoba.
