For just the third time in the last sixteen WHL Bantam Drafts, the Swift Current Broncos selected a Surrey, BC native.

Using their second of two 6th round picks in last Thursday's draft, the Broncos selected defenceman Bryce Margetson of the Delta H.A. Wild Bantam Prep.

"I was very surprised and very excited," Margetson said after being taken by Swift Current.

"Just being drafted in general was very exciting."

After spending the 2015-16 season with the Delta Varsity team, Margetson made the jump to the Delta Prep. team this past season.

In 30 regular season games over the 2016-17 year, the Surrey product posted 2 goals and 7 assists.

Although the stats won't jump off the page, Margetson prefers to take care of his own end of the ice instead.

"I'm a defensive defenceman," he said.

"I play hard in the corners and make a good first pass."

Beyond just working hard, he also says he is prepared to fill any role the coaching staff asks of him.

"I like to bring a strong defensive game to the team and do whatever they need me to do," Margetson said.

The 6'0", 166lb blue-liner has mainly played on the right side of the ice.

As Margetson continues to work towards trying to make the WHL, he has a few specific things in mind that still need further development.

"I need to work on my speed, agility and get stronger," he said.

Despite being selected by a team nearly 1,500 kilometers away from his hometown, when asked if that caused any issues for the 15-year old, he simply said "no".

Margetson was one of a record breaking 66 Canadians Sport School Hockey League athletes picked in the 2017 WHL Draft.

He feels the league makes a world of difference for players looking to further develop.

"I think the development is very different from other associations," he said.

"We are on the ice four times a week, and do one dry-land."

Margetson was one of three defenceman selected by Swift Current in the 2017 draft, and one of their four picks out of the CSSHL.
