Broncos fans are hoping for a treat on Halloween night as Swift Current hosts the Calgary Hitmen for the first meeting between the two teams this season.

Broncos defenceman and Calgary product Brycen Martin is getting used to a different role this season. He has been paired with Dillon Heatherington on the team's top unit with the goal of shutting down the other team's best players every night.

"It's definitely somthing new," he said. "I've always been an offensive guy, and a guy who's been there against the second and third line, who's out there to produce goals and offensive plays, but this year it's a lot different being able to adapt to a two-way defensive role, which is what all NHLers have to do, so I kind of like the adjustment right now, and hopefully I can gradually improve and make the next steps.

The Buffalo Sabres draft pick is tied for the team lead in plus/minus at +1 and has six assists in 16 games as part of a balanced power play attack. The Broncos are second in the WHL with a power play efficency of 29.2%

"There are five talented guys that able to work the puck around and open up flaws in the other team's penalty kill, and we've just all been able to buy in together," Martin added. "It doesn't matter who's on the ice, we're always able to get it done, and that's what all teams want on their power play... Ten guys who can go out and produce, and I'm glad that we have that this year."

The Hitmen won all four games against the Broncos last season.

You can hear the game starting with our pre-game show at 6:30pm tonight on The Eagle 94.1 FM with the play-by-play from Shawn Mullin starting at 7:00pm, and kids get in free to tonight's game at the Credit Union iPlex if they're wearing their Halloween costume.
