Swift Current Broncos prospect Brycen Martin and Team Albeta beat Manitoba 10-4 Sunday afternoon to win the gold medal at the Western Canada Under 16 Challenge Cup.

Martin credits their team unity with the victory.

"We were able to buy into the team systems (and) come together in such a short time," Martin said. "It was the difference between winning and losing."

Martin scored once in four games and made the tournament all-star team.

"It's a step by step process of maturing players up from U16, U17, U18 to World Juniors," Martin said. "It's a great process and I'm happy to be in it."

Swift Current's Tim Vanstone had a goal and an assist, whilte Stewart Valley's Jordan Wittman picked up an assist in four games for Team Saskatchewan. They lost the bronze medal game 5-4 to Team BC. Wittman and Vanstone play for the Midget AAA Home Hardware Legionnaires. Wittman is a Broncos draft pick and Vanstone is property of the Prince Albert Raiders.

Broncos prospect Viktor Dombrovskiy had an assist in four games for BC.

Swift Current drafted Martin second overall in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. They signed him during training camp. He will also represent Canada at the first-ever Youth Olympic Winter Games in January.
