Swift Current Broncos defenceman Brycen Martin set Joe Hicketts up for a tap-in winner as Team Pacific beat Russia 8-7 in overtime on Saturday to open the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in Drummondville, Quebec.

Martin pushed the offensive attack for Team Pacific with 4 assists in their first game of the preliminary round.

3 of Martin's 4 assists came on the power play.

Conner Bleakley scored twice for Team Pacific. His family is from Shaunavon, but he grew up in Alberta and plays for the Red Deer Rebels in the WHL.

Martin is the only representative from the Broncos at the U17 tournament.

Swift Current product Tim Vanstone of the Prince Albert Raiders is playing for Team West. They lost their opener 4-0 to Sweden.

Team West will play Russia on Sunday, while Team Pacific doesn't play again until Monday against Sweden.
