It was a big day for Swift Current Minor Baseball.

Two Swift Current locals received awards at the Annual Baseball Sask AGM.

Bryce Martin was named the Baseball Sask Builder of the Year, while Ethan Murdoch was named Baseball Sask Minor Player of the Year.

Martin says his desire to help build Swift Current Minor Baseball goes beyond just his love of the game.

"The smiles on the very young players from Mosquito age, wanting to learn the game and learn the skills, and then you see the kids in major Midget ball that are using those skills to grow their own competitiveness and love of the sport, that is probably the biggest thing that drives me now," he said.

"Seeing how all of us as adults can help to grow that passion in kids and make sure that the sport of baseball continues on for a long, long time."

Martin, who serves as the Umpire Coordinator for Swift Current Minor Baseball says he wants to continue to further develop that area moving forward.

"We've got a very good reputation around the province for having high-quality umpires, and not only the senior and more experienced umpires, but even our young umpires who have only been in it for a year, or two, they are building a spirit of professionalism and the desire to do things right," he said.

For Ethan Murdoch, it was a very busy, yet successful year.

He helped lead Swift Current to Western's in Saskatoon in August, where Ethan received the Top Hitter Award after posting a .818 batting average (9 for 11), along with nine runs scored, one RBI and four walks.

Ethan was made the trip out east to London, Ontario to represent Team Saskatchewan at the 13U National Championship.

He was named the top catcher in the 10-team tournament for his efforts in helping Team Saskatchewan reach the medal round.

Martin was happy to see Murdoch receive the recognition.

"He is a very worthwhile and deserving recipient of that award," he said.

"He has a passion for baseball, which I think goes right along with many other ball players in this community and the coaching staff and the board. He is a very well deserving recipient and I think the community should be very excited that we have another ball player that has been recognized by the provincial association."

The Baseball Sask AGM was held Sunday in Regina.
