The Sheriff just earned another badge.

Swift Current Broncos forward Jon Martin is the WHL's most recent Player of the Week.

Martin, nicknamed The Sheriff by Broncos associate coach Ryan Smith, put up two goals and five assists in three games for the week that ran from October 12th to the 18th. He's been on an incredible run of fifteen points over six games since a trade brought him from Kootenay to Swift Current.

"He likes to score," Smith said of Martin during a recent post-game broadcast. "His leadership is on the ice. He's been a real shot of energy to this team (as) that big, physical true power forward. Jon will impact the game whether her scores (or not). He's going to be a physical presence. The other team knows when he's out there."

"Guys feed off that. He's got a lot of respect in that room and it's not just because of the goals. He plays the right way. He's straightforward, he finishes checks, he's great along the boards."

Martin was named the game's first star in two of the three games over the week and has earned that honour in all four games he has played for the Broncos at the Credit Union iPlex.

"(Martin is) a shooter," said Broncos forward Jake DeBrusk. "He's a power forward, he's got a heavy shot... he's been ripping it and everything has been going in. It's been awesome.

The Winnipeg product is tied for the WHL scoring lead with nineteen points and second in the league with eleven goals.

He has already surpassed his career high in goals and is five points away from his career high in points only ten games into his overage season.

The Broncos are in Moose Jaw on Wednesday.
