It’s with great pleasure that the Swift Current Indians are welcoming former manager Harv Martinez back to the club as vice-president of baseball operations.

Martinez returns to the team in an executive capacity five years after stepping down as the longest-serving manager in franchise history.

“Harv is going to act as a liaison between our manager, Joe Carnahan, and the board, and will also serve as an alternate team governor at the league level,” said Indians president Brad Woods. “Harv brings an invaluable wealth of experience to the table and we’re beyond thrilled to have him back in the fold.”

Martinez compiled a 487-250 win-loss record in his 20 seasons as Indians manager from 1988-2007. He holds Western Major Baseball League records for regular-season wins, championships (nine), has won multiple coach-of-the-year awards, and is a member of the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame.

Most recently he spearheaded a committee that oversaw the purchase and installation of the new seating structure at Mitchell Field.

“It was an easy decision to return to the team when the right opportunity arose,” said Martinez. “The Swift Current Indians have a bright future ahead of them and I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it.”
