A new provincial champion was crowned at the 2018 Sasktel Tankard in Estevan over the weekend, after the 2017-winning Adam Casey rink were eliminated Saturday morning.

Team Casey went 3-3 over their Tankard schedule, and were unable to string together consecutive wins during play.

"I think we're obviously going to be a little bit disappointed with it - I think we threw really well, and we just didn't get results out of our shots," said Cabri-product Shawn Meachem, who is the team's Second. "There's lots of potential moving forward, and everybody is feeling good about how we played I think. It just didn't work out and it just goes that way sometimes."

The Regina-based Casey Rink outscored opponents 44-41 over their tournament schedule:

8-7 Win over Team Selke in Draw 2
9-8 Loss to Team Bitz in Draw 3
12-6 Win over Team Bryden in Draw 5
8-2 Loss to Team Laycock in Draw 7
7-2 Win over Team Hartung in Draw 9
9-7 Loss to Team Kendel in Draw 10

That Laycock rink, who handed Team Casey an eight-end defeat, went on to be crowned as Tankard Champions with a 9-7 victory over Team Flasch on Sunday. They will don the provincial flag as Saskatchewan's representative at the 2018 Tim Hortons Brier in Regina, which runs March 3-11.
