New Swift Current Midget AAA 57s' head coach Dustin Bissonnette was given a prestigious honour by his post-secondary alma mater yesterday.

Bissonnette, a former infielder at Louisiana State University - Shreveport (LSUS), was named to the University's Baseball Hall of Fame class of 2018.

In a decision voted on by former players and members of the LSUS baseball community, Bissonnette is one of five players in this year's class.

During a college career spanning from 2004-06, the Alberta-born Bissonnette built a spectacular resume.

He was named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) Player of the Year in 2005, and was also named to the GCAC All-Conference team in 2005 and 2006.

The individual accolades stem from a red-hot career at the plate. In his three-year tenure, Bissonnette's name can be found among the top five in notable all-time batting categories at LSUS.
First - Single-season hits (99)
Second - Career walks (116)
Third - Single-season batting average (.444)
Third - Career hits (240)
Fourth - Career at-bats (638)
Fourth - Career doubles (44)
Fifth - Career batting average (.377)

Bissonnette will be officially inducted into the LSUS baseball Hall of Fame in the fall.

But up first, the Midget AAA 57s new bench boss will make his head coaching debut in Swift Current kicks off May 5, as his squad hosts the Regina Wolfpack at Mitchell Field.
