A rare home loss for the Swift Current female Midget AAA Diamond Energy Wildcats on Sunday.

Chloe Smith scored their lone goal as Melville beat them 2-1 in the shootout to split the weekend series.

"We simply have to find a way to score goals as scoring four goals in three games puts a lot of pressure on our goalies," said Wildcats Coach Terry Pavely. "Our power play needs to be more effective. We moved the puck on the power play in offensive zone very well, but need to convert."

Jasey Book stopped 22 of 23 Melville shots. None of the Wildcats shooters managed to score in the shootout as they dropped to 9-1-0-1 at home in the regular season.

"Finding a way to respond when we play teams that play a pressure game against us will be a key for us moving forward," Pavely said. "Not turning over the puck as much as we did today and still play to our strengths, especially cycling the puck in the offensive zone."

Swift Current sits fourth in the league standings as they get set to host first place Regina next weekend.

The Swift Current Midget AAA Home Hardware Legionnaires again came close before losing their sixteenth straight game on Sunday in Tisdale.

Kolby Johnson scored twice as the Legionnaires fell 5-4 to the Trojans.

They lost both games in Tisdale by a single goal this weekend.

Reid Fritzke, Chaston Sare and Morgan Greve also had two point games for Swift Current.

Kyle Zinger stopped 37 of 42 Trojans shots.

Swift Current Broncos prospect Brandan Arnold had a goal and an assist for the Legionnaires.

Meanwhile, the Tarpon Energy AA Atom Broncos swept Melville with a 7-2 win on Saturday and 8-1 win on Sunday.

They clinched first place for the playoffs with a record of 15-2-1 earning a bye in the first round of playoffs.

The Atam Broncos host the Estevan Bruins on February 8th.
