Some positives and a lot to work on for the Swift Current Midget Indians after the first weekend of the Saskatchewan Premier Baseball League.

They beat the defending Midget AAA champion Saskatoon Giants 6-2 in the opener on the strength of 3 shutout innings and a 3-3 day at the plate from Zac Mackay.

The Indians then dropped the second game of the double-header 17-7.

Full Interview with Coach Brennan Peterson"We did a lot of things well," said Midget Indians Coach Brennan Peterson. "I was really impressed with our plate discipline just taking balls and swinging at pretty good strikes. When we got on base we stole a lot of bases which was the plan from day one."

"Game 2 we just got into a little bit of pitching trouble. We walked too many batters... but that's something we talked about with each of them. It's just a little fix that we can work on. It shouldn't take too long to get that ship righted"

After having very little field time before their first games, the Midget Indians have a full week before they host the Saskatoon Cubs. That gives the coaching staff a chance to spend some quality time with the team in practice.

"A little base running things that can get us even more of an advantage," Peterson said. "Especially at second base I noticed a few things we can work on this week. We're also going to do some pitching work just throw some bullpens during the middle of the week, get some little extra one on one work, fix up some tiny mechanical flaws that we saw."

Peterson is joined on his coaching staff by another former WMBL Indians player in Kirk Haviland. The BC native joined Peterson's staff after a four year college career in the United-States and three summers in Swift Current.
