Midget Indians Brandon

The Swift Current Midget AA Indians have a chance to get a double championship this season.

The Tribe won the provincial title in 2012, but were unable to defend last season because they were hosting the Western Canadian Baseball Championships that season, but now a rule change has allowed Swift Current to take part in both tournaments this season with the Indians hosting Westerns again in August.

"It's just a good opportunity for us to be playing instead of having the weekend off," said Midget Coach Brennan Peterson. "It's a chance for us to be sharp on the field and we're really excited for the opportunity to play, and we're looking forward to it."

Provincials will start on Friday in Yorkton, and Peterson says they're hoping to get some momentum back ahead of Westerns.

"We had a really good start, but in the end of June and start of July, we had a lot of close games that we didn't quite win," he said. "Our record isn't quite where we want it to be, but I think having that experience in the regular season will really help us in provincials, because we'll be able to battle through those tough situations."

The Indians have two games each on Friday and Saturday with the playoffs on Sunday.

The Western Canadian Championships go in Swift Current August 15-17.
