What a special night for Swift Current 57's third baseman Brody Alexandre in a 9-0 bashing of the Yorkton Cardinals.

The Swift Current product, who recently just completed Grade 11, ripped an eighth-inning single, marking his first-career Western Canadian Baseball League hit.

"I was just going out there, looking for a fastball to hit. I ended up getting ahead in the count, just still looking for that fastball, and I got one over the middle of the plate," said Alexandre. "Just tried to put a good swing on it, and luckily blooped it over the second baseman."

Alexandre, who also is playing for the 18U AAA 57's this season, served as a pinch hitter, and recorded his first WCBL hit in just his second at-bat.

Currently holding a .375 batting average with a home run and 11 RBI with the 18U AAA 57's, the 2020 high school graduate says getting to soak up the dugout atmosphere and high level of ball has been beneficial to his game.

"It's awesome, just try to pick everybody's brain, try to learn as much as I can. Just try to help me out as a better ball player, and they're all there to try to make me a better ball player as well," Alexandre noted. "I think just taught me to be a little more patient, not get so worked up, and just sit back and wait for my moment and it'll come."

Nine other 57's batters recorded a hit in the game, with two apiece coming from Tanner Holen, Zach Howard, Colby Seltzer, and Jared Binsfeld.

Alex Stinnett ripped a towering two-run homer to highlight the offensive output.

Elsewhere of note on the night, starter Logan Garza was dissecting the Cardinals' lineup, tossing a no-hitter over his five innings of work on the mound.

"I was pretty dialed in - my catcher kept me pretty dialed in at the very beginning of it, especially when we were warming up," said the product of Round Rock, TX. "He made sure I stayed locked in - it's kind of a testament to our pitching staff. We have guys like Zach [Patterson], guys like [Tyler] Murphy, who kind of set the tone for us - who lead the way and make sure that everybody is kind of competing against one another."

Garza, who usually works out of the bullpen for the 57's, needed just 51 pitches to get through five innings, while racking up six strikeouts.

The reason for the early exit during a no-hit bid comes down to him being on an innings limit.

"Honestly it's not frustrating at all - my coach back at my school, coach Aughney, he makes sure that I'm staying healthy," Garza said on not being able to finish the bid. "We got a lot of guys in the bullpen who I know are going to lock you down at the end of the game, especially with Fin [Duffield], we have Garrett [Alexander] who's come out of the pen and been nice for us, we have guys like Mitch [Waletski] - everybody's just going to do their role."

Finnegan Duffield, Corbitt Cimadevilla, and Mitch Waletski came out of the bullpen to finish out the final four innings. However, three hits - the only Yorkton could muster - broke up the combined no-hitter, and perfect game.

The 57's are now trending up, having won seven of their last ten games, with a 16-9 record on the season. They sit two games back of both Weyburn and Regina, who are tied at the top of the Eastern Division.

Swift Current wrap their brief two-game home stand tonight, welcoming the defending league champs from Medicine Hat to town.

The 57's and Mavericks get underway at 7:05 p.m. from Mitchell Field.
