Travis Moen starts his quest for another Stanley Cup on Tuesday

It'll be a southwest match-up in the NHL playoffs as Maple Creek's Zack Smith and the Ottawa Senators will face Stewart Valley's Travis Moen and the Montreal Canadiens.

The Senators beat Boston 4-2 in the final game of the regular season to create the series with Montreal.

It was a tremendous rebound season for the Canadiens as they jumped from last in the Eastern Conference in 2011-12 to 2nd place and home ice advantage against the 7th place Senators.

Moen had 6 points in 45 games for Montreal while playing a key defensive role.

Making the playoffs was an impressive achievement for Ottawa given the number of serious injuries they had to battle through. Stars Jason Spezza and Erik Karlsson missed most of the season and many others were out for large chunks of time.

Smith, a former Swift Current Bronco, had 15 points in 48 games for the Senators.

Game 1 is Wednesday night in Montreal.

Another series with local connections will see Aneroid's Patrick Marleau, former Broncos Coach Todd McLellan and the San Jose Sharks go up against former Bronco Dale Weise and the Vancouver Canucks.

Marleau had 31 points in 48 games for the Sharks, while Weise put up 6 points in 40 games for Vancouver.

Former Bronco Colton Orr and the Toronto Maple Leafs are matched up with Boston in the other series involving Canadian teams.
