Swift Current wrestler Aleah Nickel was at City Hall last night to discuss her stellar 2017-18 season in front of city council.

So far the grade 11 Nickel won Gold at SHSAA Provincials in March, Gold at Juvenile Nationals in April, and Silver at the Pan-American Championships last month in Guatemala.

Nickel also spent time across the Pacific Ocean with Wrestling Canada Lutte's Cadet Team last October at the 2017 Saori Cup in Tsu, Japan.

"Basically this whole season would not have gone this way if it wasn't for the support of my teammates, my parents, all the help from all the coaches, being able to go training camps, and the support of just the entire town," said the reserved and humble Nickel in front of a packed council chambers.

Nickel will be headed into her final high school wrestling campaign and some lofty goals await the accomplished athlete.

"Next year I have two nationals that I'm able to compete in," said said. "One is Junior Nationals which is more of the university level, and there's also again Juvenile Nationals which is grade 11 and 12. So, that's for sure what my plans are for next year."

One competition remains before Nickel can turn the page on the 2017-18 season, however.

The wrestler will next suit up for Team Canada at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia from July 2-8.
