Swift Current Bronco fans will get their first look at new goaltending Jon Groenheyde this weekend as they host Lethbridge tomorrow and Edmonton on Sunday.

Oil Kings General Manager Bob Green offers a scouting report on Groenheyde.|

"Jon's big, takes away a lot of the net and he's highly competitive," Green said.

"He had an immediate impact on our hockey club."

Groenheyde helped turn the 2010-11 season around for the Oil Kings after they acquired him from Kamloops. Edmonton ended up making the playoffs as a 5th seed. He also served as a mentor for young goaltender Laurent Brossoit.

"Jon kinda took him under his wing and helped him along with his game," Green said.

Green made Groenheyde available because Edmonton had three goalies they were happy with. Swift Current sent Jordan Peddle to the Oil Kings to complete the deal.

"He's a hard nosed kid he's hard to play against," Green said. "He's one guy you always noticed because he's getting involved in the game physically."

Peddle and Groenheyde will quickly get a chance to face their old teams when Swift Current hosts Edmonton on Sunday night. The Broncos are home to Lethbridge on Saturday for their "Beat Breast Cancer" night.
