A quick start helped the Edmonton Oil Kings into a 4-1 victory of the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night.

Brett Pollock scored only ten seconds in to give Edmonton an early lead. Cole Benson then added a goal midway through the period on a puck that Landon Bow couldn't squeeze and that resulted in a quick end to Bow's night.

The Broncos played better in the second half of the first period and carried that strong play into the second period. They couldn't turn puck possession into goals over that time as young goaltender Patrick Dea was equal to the task for Edmonton.

Dysin Mayo scored the all important next goal for the Oil Kings as he wired a slap shot from the top right circle by Child early in the second period. Mayo's goal gave Edmonton a cushion they could work without having to press too much in Swift Current's zone.

The Broncos were at their best in the second half of the second period winning battles and getting pucks towards the net. Edmonton continued to do a good job boxing out the front of their goal and Dea stopped the pucks he saw.

The third period saw the Oil Kings really clamp down as the teams combined for only two shots in the first half of the period. Swift Current started to break through in the second half of the period again and finally with just over two minutes to play Colby Cave broke the Patrick Dea shutout. Glenn Gawdin held the puck in and got it to Cave in the slot. The captain's quick release caught Dea off guard and got the Broncos within striking distance.

Brandon Baddock sealed the win for Edmonton with Travis Child on the bench for the extra attacker.

Swift Current outshot Edmonton 32-28. They went 0 for 4 on the power play and held Edmonton to 0 for 3.
