Brossoit-Laurent

Laurent Brossoit shut the door on the Moose Jaw Warriors in Game 2 of the WHL Eastern Conference Final as the Edmonton Oil Kings picked up a second straight 6-1 win to take a 2-0 series lead.  The Oil Kings netminder made 48 saves in the win.  Jordan Peddle scored two goals, including the lone one in the first period, to the lead the offence for Edmonton, but the story of the game was easily Brossoit.

In the second period, Brossoit made 22 saves alone as the Oil Kings extended their lead to 3-1 after two.  The Warriors had all the pressure during the middle frame, and throughout much of the game, but Brossoit stood tall.  Hendrik Samuelsson scored midway through the second.  Moose Jaw responded just 1:37 later with Kenton Miller’s first of the series to get on the board, but the stellar goaltending from Brossoit and a power play goal from Martin Gernat would kill any momentum the tribe had heading into the third.

While the Warriors were able to keep the pressure up into the final frame, it was Edmonton who continued to find the back of the net.  Curtis Lazar made it 4-1 Edmonton 6:55 into the third, and Peddle put the game away with his second of the night into an empty net with 2:10 to go.  Mitchell Moroz finished off the final period onslaught with a power play goal at 18:40 of the third.

Luke Siemens made 26 saves in his third loss of the playoffs, while Brossoit has now stopped 77 of 79 shots to start this series.

The Warriors continued to struggle on the power play, going 1-for-6, while Edmonton was 1-for-5 with the man advantage.

The two teams will now pack up and make their to the Friendly City for Games 3 and 4 on Tuesday and Wednesday night at Mosaic Place.  Both games are sold out with very limited standing room is available.
