Former Swift Current Broncos goaltender Eetu Laurikainen is coming back to North America.

The NHL's Edmonton Oilers have inked the Finnish netminder to a two-year entry level contract.

Laurikainen had a tremendous rookie season in Finland’s SM-liiga posting a 17-10-9 record, 2.10 goals against average and a 0.933 save percentage with the Espoo Blues.

He was runner up for the league's rookie of the year award.

Laurikainen went 55-43-12 in two seasons with the Broncos. He had save percentages of 0.922 in 2012-13 and 0.914 in 2013-14.

He represented Finland at the World Junior Hockey Championship during his first season in Swift Current.

After battling against him in juniors, Laurkainen will now likely form a tandem with former Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Laurent Brossoit in the Oilers minor league system.

His signing is officially one of the first acts from Edmonton's new management team led by President and General Manager Peter Chiarelli. Laurikainen had been rumoured to be going to Edmonton for a few weeks now.
