Six different goal scorers helped the Regina Pats to a 6-1 win over the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday.

The Broncos weren't the same team as the one that beat Regina 5-3 in Swift Current on Saturday night.

"Disappointing loss that's for sure," said Broncos associate coach Josh Dixon. "Disappointing considering the way we played (Saturday) and the way we came back. Tonight we dug ourselves a hole and credit Regina they were the better team."

The Broncos got down early as a Brycen Martin turnover led to Jared McAmmond's goal. Swift Current responded with a Colby Cave power play goal as he scored for the 5th time in his last three games.

The first period featured some intense physical play as the rival teams were playing each other for the sixth time this season. There were two fights and lots of chippy play.

"We were a little bit sleepy to star the game," Dixon said. "Certainly the emotions starting to boil over in the first period was good for our group and was good for our game. We were hoping those would carry into the second period and for whatever reason it did not."

Turnovers continued to plague the Broncos in the second period as they factored in directly on two more goals as the Pats pulled away from Swift Current with four unanswered goals.

"We talked about how important it was to manage the puck in the neutral zone," Dixon said. "Tonight we had to do a much better job at our blue line getting pucks out and then off the rush just chipping it in behind the defence to allow us to establish a forecheck. Turnovers prevented both of those things from happening and at the same time enabled their rush and their attack."

Landon Bow stopped 19 of 23 Regina shots before being pulled for Travis Child in the second period. The rookie netminder turned aside 21 of the 23 shots he faced. Daniel Wapple earned the win for Regina with 23 saves.

Swift Current's lone goal came on the power play, but they went only 1 for 7 on the man advantage. The Broncos held Regina to 0 for 7 and continue to hold the league's top penalty kill.

Sunday's loss restored a four point lead for Regina over the Broncos for second place in the WHL East Division. The two teams don't play again until February.

Swift Current visits Red Deer on Tuesday and Edmonton on Wednesday.
