peddle playoffs

Jordan Peddle

Mark Pysyk scored the game winner for the Oil Kings with 56 seconds left in regulation, vaulting them to a 4-3 win over Portland in Game 5 of the WHL Final.  Pysyk finished with two points while former Bronco Jordan Peddle was the game's second star with two goals and three points, Sven Bartschi led Portland with a goal and two points.

Peddle has 6 points in 5 league final games. He has 12 total points in the playoffs so far.

"I'm playing hockey like it's my last shift out there," Peddle told the gathering of reporters at the post-game press conference. "I'm 20 years old and I could possibly have one game left in this league. Gotta play every shift... my hardest shift... and make the most of it."

The one time Midget AAA Home Hardware Legionnaire spent three seasons with the Broncos before being traded to Edmonton for veteran goalie Jon Groenheyde at the beginning of the season.

"When we picked up Jordan from Swift Current the first thing Mark Lamb said was you're getting a hell of a playoff player," said Oil Kings Coach Derek Laxdal. "He's proven us right and he's proven Mark Lamb right. Hats off to Jordan he's had an outstanding playoffs so far. He's been a great leader on the penalty kill and he's got some big goals for us."

Edmonton now leads the series 3-2 and can capture the league title with a win Saturday when the series shifts south of the border for Game 6.  If Portland were to win at home, that would force a deciding Game 7 Sunday night back in Edmonton.
