NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs

One team was shown the door, while another stayed alive in the NHL Playoffs Friday night.

The Pittsburgh Penguins followed up on their 10-3 pounding of Philadelphia in game four to beat the Shaunavon's Brayden Coburn and the Flyers again 3-2, to now only trail that series three games to two. Tyler Kennedy scored the game-winner for the Penguins in the second period. Game six goes Sunday in Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, Former Bronco Ian White and the Detroit Red Wings are done, after they lost to Nashville 2-1 in the evening's only other playoff game to lose that series in five games. David Legwand snapped a 1-1 tie 13 seconds into the third period, and that goal would stand up as the winner. It's Detroit's earliest playoff exit since 2006, while the Predators will move on to round two for the second straight year, and only the second time in team history.

Five games are set for today, with Washington visiting Boston this afternoon with the series tied at two games apiece (1:00pm, CBC). New Jersey heads to Florida with that series also tied 2-2 (4:30pm, TSN2), and Maple Creek's Zack Smith and the Ottawa Senators head back to Manhattan with their series with the New York rangers also knotted at two (5:00pm, CBC).

The are also two possible clinchers for the St. Louis Blues and Phoenix Coyotes tonight. The Blues can eliminate Aneroid's Patrick Marleau and the San Jose Sharks with a win at home in game five (5:00pm, TSN), while the Coyotes can win their first playoff series since moving from Winnipeg in 1996 with a victory over the Blackhawks in Glendale, AZ (8:00pm, TSN).
