A local female hockey player is preparing to make her debut for her country this weekend.

Katelyn Ptolemy of Dinsmore recently made the National Women's Under-18 squad, and is currently in Ottawa preparing with the team for an upcoming three-game series against the United States.

Ptolemy says the opportunity to play for Canada started a little while back, when she received an invitation to try out while participating at the Canada Winter Games.

Ptolemy is a member of the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats, and is set to play for the squad again this winter.
