The Kabos Bantam Raiders' season ended in heartbreaking fashion, after they dropped a 7-6 double-overtime decision to the Regina Aces at the Fairview Arenas Thursday night.

The loss knocked the Raiders out of the first round of the league playoffs in two straight games. Swift Current Coach Todd Hornung says despite the loss, he was proud with how the team played.

"We didn't get a lot of wins this season, but I think the last three weeks, we've really come a long way," he said. "We started playing as a team, we're not getting the little bounces that we need, but as far as effort goes, I couldn't ask for anything more from today... We had some struggles before Christmas and it seemed that we were fighting an uphill battle all the time, and the first couple of weeks after January, we seemed to really come together and start to do things well, and sort of take everything and develop a more routine kind of game.

"I would have liked to see more wins, but at the end of the day, every kid improved and got better, and that's all we ask," Hornung added.

Tanner Kendall had a five-point night with a hat trick and two helpers for the Raiders, and Hunter Lamb also had five points with a goal and four assists. Damon Legault and Logan Fritzke also scored for Swift Current.

Other minor hockey had the SWT Pee Wee Broncos beating Moose Jaw 7-2 on the road Thursday night, ensuring they will finish league play in first place in the standings. They'll host the Warriors to wrap up the regular season on Saturday.

The K-Motel Hurricanes will start the provincial Midget AA south final tonight when they travel to Wilcox to take on the Notre Dame Hounds. Game two of the two-game total point series is next Friday at the Fairview Arenas.

At the Canada Winter Games in Prince George, Team Saskatchewan fell 4-3 in overtime to Quebec in the women's hockey semi-final. Kayla Kirwan of the Diamond Energy Wildcats had an assist for Saskatchewan, who will take on Alberta for Bronze tonight. Men's hockey at the games starts next week with Broncos Associate Coach Josh Dixon heading to Prince George as the head coach of Team Saskatchewan.
