Veteran Broncos defenceman Dalton Reum hit a milestone this week as he played his 200th career WHL game.

The Camrose, Alberta product was able to reach the mark despite a later start to his career.

"Good milestone for me," Reum said. "I've only played three seasons in the league (so) to crack that 200 game mark is pretty special to me."

Reum started his WHL career with the Vancouver Giants and remembers his first game in front of a very large Pacific Coliseum crowd during their home opener.

Interview with Broncos D Dalton Reum"There was I think 14,000 people," Reum recalled. "I just remember I had butterflies in my stomach. It was a pretty cool experience for me,"

He lasted 37 games with the Giants before a trade shipped the steady defenceman to Swift Current for fellow rearguard Joel Rogers. Since that time Reum has only missed three games right after he was traded and another due to a broken jaw.

"I've been very fortunate to be able to play as many games as I have," Reum said. "The training and the game in the WHL is like no other. It's very highly skilled and highly promoted. It's been great for me so far."

Over his 200 games he has 8 goals and 36 points.

"I'm more concerned... I want to win games," Reum noted. "My defensive game has been good and we've been winning games. I'd say our D corps is one of the best in the league, I'm not afraid to say that, and our goaltending is one of the best in the league. The forward do a really good job and we play as a five man unit in our own zone. It's helped out a lot this year."

Reum and the Broncos start a three-game weekend with a home-and-home series against the Medicine Hat Tigers. Medicine Hat sits 6th in the Eastern Conference, only a point ahead of the 7th place Broncos.

"We know they're a hungry team so these two games are pretty much playoff games," Reum noted. "The Brandon one (Sunday) as well, even though they're not really in the playoff hunt anymore it's still a huge two points for us."

Friday and Sundays' games are in Swift Current, while the Broncos travel to Medicine Hat on Saturday. You can hear all three games on The Eagle 94.1 FM with The New Pioneer Co-op Home Centre Broncos Hockey.
