The rodeo season is officially underway.
The 2012 Canadian Cowboys' Association's first rodeo of the year went last weekend in Tisdale.
President Mark Benzce says the semi-pro CCA sanctions 60 rodeos across the prairies and Ontario, adding the sport continues to grow despite changes to farming lifestyles: "A lot of the folks that are former competitors and contestants they have a great vision. They see the fact that in order to keep rodeo alive we have to find a way to recruit the young folks in. These training grounds are available to kids from not only ranch families but urban families also. We have a strong recruiting process.
"There are 31 stops in Saskatchewan during the season and eight in the southwest, including the Frontier Days rodeo in Swift Current.
