The Kootenay Ice were melted down by two former teammates last night.

Former Kootenay forward Adam Rossignol scored the winner, another former Ice forward Christian Magnus scored twice and had an assist as the Swift Current Broncos topped Kootenay 4-3 Tuesday night.

"Nothing better than going out against your former team and beating them," Magnus said. "(He and Rossignol) were just talking about it. About how (Ice GM Jeff Chynoweth) it's too bad he wasn't here to watch that. We were also talking about how it always goes through your minds... a game against your old team. Especially for (Rossignol) he has kind of been in a slump of late. It goes through your head over and over again about dangling someone and getting the winning goal. I'm sure he's pretty pumped up right now."

With the game tied at 3 late in the third period, Rossignol picked up the puck in his own zone and went through two Kootenay defenders before putting a backhand shot over Ice goaltender Nathan Lieuwen. It was Rossignol's 2nd goal as a Bronco and 8th of the season. He came to Swift Current in a deal for defenceman Tanner Muth just before the trade deadline in January.

Magnus started his career in Swift Current before being part of two deadline deals. He went to Kootenay as a 16-year-old and got traded back to Swift Current last season as a part of the blockbuster Cody Eakin deal. Magnus' line with Graham Black and Ryon Moser combined for 3 goals and 7 points in the Broncos victory Tuesday night.

Moser opened the scoring on a pretty passing play that Magnus from the corner. Black then put the puck behind his back to Moser who went to his backhand for his 13th goal of the season.

Kootenay tied the game as Elgin Pearce beat Jon Groenheyde during a goal mouth scramble with 1 second left in the first period. The goal appeared to give Kootenay some momentum as they took control of the game during the first half of the second period and went ahead on a Max Reinhart goal.

Magnus replied for the Broncos by putting a Moser pass in the top of the net with just over five minutes to play in the period. It was then Swift Current's turn to score in the final minute as Black pushed a face-off towards the Kootenay goal that Magnus tapped home for his 2nd of the game and 9th of the season. Magnus has now scored 4 times since returning from a concussion last week.

"(Coach Lamb) and I were joking about all the bad things people are saying about concussions," Magnus said. "Well here is a good thing. I come back after getting a concussion and it seems like I've got my goal scoring touch back... I don't know."

The coaching staff was impressed by the work of Magnus, Moser and Black.

"They worked extremely hard," said Broncos Assistant Coach Andy Schneider. "They really used their body to protect the puck and they were able to spring each other for some quality scoring chances." 

"We seem to read off each other well," said Moser. "We've been finding each other. It's been easy to play on a line with those guys.

Jon Groenheyde stopped 32 shots to secure the victory. The Broncos netminder was also named Canadian Hockey League Goaltender of the Week before the game.

Swift Current has points in 7 of their last 11 games. They play a home and home with the Raiders this weekend starting on Friday night in Prince Albert. There are only four games left in the regular season and the Broncos have already been eliminated from the playoff chase.
