Getzlaf Bully

Saskatchewan Roughrider Chris Getzlaf showing his support for anti-bullying

You don't often see a Saskatchewan Roughrider in pink. Chris Getzlaf donned a pink shirt while speaking at both O.M. Irwin and Central Schools in Swift Current yesterday.

He was there encouraging students to stand up against bullying. “I think it's something a lot of kids have to deal with on a daily basis that they really shouldn't have to. They can hear it from other elders or other peers over and over again and it might not really hit home. Maybe because of playing for the Riders and having that impact on them it's going to hit home for them.”, said Getzlaf

Getzlaf continued saying that the kids were asking the right questions and seemed to be receiving the message, “Judging the questions and stuff I get after the presentation is over they are really getting involved and really asking the right questions which is exactly what were looking for.”

Getzlaf adds that a key part of his message was that observers need to stand up for those who are being bullied, “The biggest statistic of all is that if someone is will to step in bullying stops with in 10 seconds or less.”

He also took some time to vote for Central School in the Majesta Trees of Knowledge competition while he was in town. You can help them win $20,000 for an outdoor class by voting at Majesta.com
