Save for a possible at-large selection in this year's Frozen Four tournament, Swift Current's Joel Rumpel had his four-year career at the University of Wisconsin come to an end with a 5-1 loss to Michigan Thursday night in the first round of the Big Ten Hockey Tournament at Detroit's Joe Louis Arena.

The senior goaltender made 23 saves for the Badgers in the loss. Rumpel, who also played minor hockey in Swift Current and junior hockey with the BCHL's Penticton Vees, was a top-10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in US College Hockey in his junior season last year.

Michigan moves on to play Michigan State in the Big Ten semi-final tonight.

The teams for the national Frozen Four tournament, which will consist of six conference champions and 10 at-large selections, will be announced on Sunday with the regionals going next weekend. The National Championship will be on April 11th at TD Garden in Boston.
