Swift Current's Joel Rumpel is taking part in NCAA hockey's answer to March Madness.

Rumpel and the University of Wisconsin Badgers start the NCAA Division 1 hockey tournament Friday against the third ranked University of Massachusetts-Lowell.

The Badgers' goaltender is looking forward to the challenge.

“We just have to take it one game at a time,” Rumpel said. “We go to New Hampshire. We have two games there and if we end up winning we get a spot in the Frozen Four for the national championship.”

Rumpel was the MVP when Wisconsin won the WCHA Frozen Five tournament to quality for the final 16.

“It was a pretty cool experience,” Rumpel said. “It was in Minnesota (and) we got to play where the Wild play.”

This is Rumpel's second season in NCAA hockey. He's a former Midget AAA Home Hardware Legionnaire.
